Reviews
When in doubt, trust those who’ve come before you. While we don’t always look at reviews, we certainly do when a decision is going to cost $100 – 200. There are lots of new products being launched but reviews tell all. Look for not just the best rating but also the number of reviews. Quantity will tell you a lot about consistency and quality over time. Evaluate many marketplaces’ reviews before making your final decision.
Wavelengths
It’s important to consider the wavelength range that your device will handle. The term “red light” pertains to a wavelength between 630 – 640nm. Once a wavelength gets into the 800 – 900 nm range, you have yourself infrared light. Our #1 pick, the Exerscribe device has both capabilities, red light and infrared. While you may not be looking for infrared wavelengths as well, there’s usually no visible price difference so you should seek a device that has both, just in case.
Price
Contrary to most products, the red light therapy space is rather new and the highest priced items aren’t necessarily the highest performance. We tested several red light therapy devices ranging from $50 – 250. What we found is that the very best device on the market is under $100. You usually “get what you pay for” when shopping around but in this case, it’s the best of both worlds – the more affordable products outperform the expensive ones.
Battery Complaints
This attribute is tough to measure but worth looking into. No matter how low of a price or high of a performance one of these devices claims to be, always check the reviews for one thing in particular: battery complaints. If the batteries on these components wear down quickly, the rest of the features don’t matter, it’ll be useless to you and a constant money pit.
